While the Oscars are surely a time to celebrate incredible cinema and amazing performances, there always happens to be endless debates on films or actors who were overlooked for their work.
10. Jack Nicholson, The Shining
It's one of the most famous lines in cinematic history and it was improvised by the one and only Jack Nicholson. Yet, the legendary Hollywood star did not receive an Oscar for his breathtaking performance in the 1980’s classic "The Shining."
9. Ben Affleck, Argo
One of the biggest and most-talked about Oscar snubs is Ben Affleck who didn's get a nod for his directorial venture "Argo" that grabbed headlines the world over. Though the film went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture at the 86th Academy Awards, Ben Affleck wasn’t even nominated for Best Director.

Another big name, Tom Cruise failed to make the cut with his role as a sports agent in 1996 "Jerry Maguire." Tom Cruise lost out the Best Actor Oscar to Geoffrey Rush for "Shine."

Aaron Sorkin’s film "The Social Network" which told the tale of how Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook during his time as a Harvard student, lost out to "The King's Speech" in 2010.

Jamie Fox’s lead role in Quentin Tarantino’s "Django-Unchained" failed to even get an Oscar nomination, let alone an Academy Award. However, co-star Christoph Waltz went on to win Best Supporting Actor that year for the same movie.

Ang Lee’s "Brokeback Mountain" suffered a big loss at the Oscars when it failed to bring home the award, losing it to Paul Haggis' "Crash" for Best Picture.

One of the most famously snubbed actors at the Academy Awards is none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. His portrayal of Jack Dawson in the 1997 blockbuster "Titanic" failed to get him an Oscar nomination, while his co-star did manage a nomination, but no award.
