Top 10 Most Horrifying "Doctor Who" Monsters
As fans of the longest running sci-fi show of all time, we are finally going to see the first female Doctor in “Doctor Who” soon. Yes, FEMALE!
However, if you don’t watch it (why the hell are you not?), it’s all about a man from outer space who travels in a telephone box which is actually a time machine. And he fights monsters. A lot.
A lot of these monsters are cool. A lot of these monsters are funny. But some… some are scary. And we takes a crack at naming the top 10.
10.Ood
Despite being a benevolent species that live to serve their Masters, The Ood have a terrible track record for going completely crazy and trying to kill everything in sight.
In fact, two-thirds of their appearances see the species possessed by dark forces. The Ood have a tragic but compelling back story, becoming slaves to human colonies after their hive center was destroyed.
They have become almost as iconic and popular as the Daleks and Cybermen, commanding our sympathy as well as fear in a way that so many Who monsters fall short of.
9.The Abzorbaloff
The reason why it is so terrifying is due to the great use of body horror, which is particularly disturbing (and not at all a laughing matter) in the case of poor Bliss.
It is also graced with a chilling performance from Peter Kay and some horrifying lines, such as the infamous “She tastes like chicken” moment. It was only fitting that this great nemesis should die in such an ingenious way, being absorbed by a paving slab. Such a stroke of ironic genius.
8.The Empty Child
“Are you my mummy?” I admit I don’t find that phrase scary any more, mainly due to my dad saying it whenever I ring him, but back in 2005 when The Empty Child first aired, they were terrifying. A little kid with a gas mask permanently stuck to his face, asking for his mother, was scary enough.
But the fact that it could infect other people, even making an old man chant “Are you my mummy?” moved this monster into nightmare territory.
7.The Peg Dolls
“Don’t Run, we want to PLAY” These Victorian dolls were the basis of a nightmare for the little boy in the story. These are just creepy looking and to have them follow you around at night… creepy.
6.Daleks
Of course the most infamous of creatures in the Who-verse were going to come into this list. But I’m still placing them pretty low, as they’re regarding as cool rather than scary now.
But think – if you met a little alien in big armour who’s only instinct is to kill all living things that aren’t exactly like itself, and had the means to kill you a thousand times over, what you do? I’d piss my pants. Well, I’d try, but I’d probably get exterminated halfway through…
5.Jennifer’s Ganger
In “The Rebel Flesh””The Almost People”, there is a white substance, called the Rebel Flesh, that creates a clone or Doppleganger (“Ganger” for short) of whoever touches it.
These “Gangers” aren’t really that scary though. What I’m talking about, is the Ganger Monster that Jennifer’s Ganger turns into. This Monster is only at the end of the two part episode, but in her few minutes of screen time, She still manages to be completely horrifying.
4.The Master
I know some of you might think He’s a human, but he’s not. The Master is A Time Lord, and serves as the Doctor’s Complete Opposite. He’s basically an Evil version of the Doctor.
Similar to the Daleks & Cybermen, The Master has been around since the Classic Series. He’s been featured in Countless episodes, but his scariest appearance in my opinion was in the 10th Doctor’s Final episode, “The End of Time”.
In this episode, he turns every living human on Earth (except Wilfred & Donna) into clones of himself, and Brings the Gallifrean Time Lords to Earth. That’s just disturbing, being yourself one minute, and then suddenly being the Master.
3.The Water of Mars
Just.One.Drop.of.Water… and you will turn into this. On Mars. This waterborne virus infects the crew by filling them up with water and leaving them like this… zombie-like watery appearance.
2.The Silence
If you can remember these guys… these monsters influence you and you cannot remember it… but when you do see them, they are creepy looking and powerful.
1.Weeping Angels
They look all innocent at first, but the direction of the episode – timing is everything. When you do blink, you see these crazy monsters when you open your eyes again. It makes you creeped out of statues… for the rest of your life.
