Top 10 People Magazine Sexiest Men Alive Of All Time
The Sexiest Man Alive was born in Rockefeller Center, on the 29th floor of the Time-Life Building, inside the offices of one of the most popular magazines in America. Twenty-nine years later, the honor goes to Chris Hemsworth .
So here's the question, what's your choice if the candidates are these top 10 Sexiest Men Alive of all time?
10. Chris Hemsworth (2014)
Hemsworth is the latest inductee in the Sexiest Man Alive Hall of Fame, if not the most likely. Not that he's not sexy — he obviously is.
He just wasn't actually in any movies this year, whereas in 2013 he appeared in two box office hits ("Thor: The Dark World" and "Star Trek: Into Darkness"), plus the critically-acclaimed "Rush".
In 2015, he's starring in four films, including "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and the new "Vacation" sequel. Oh, well — we'll take any reason we can get to stare into those baby blues.
9. George Clooney (1997, 2006)
Recently-married Clooney is one of four actors to grace People's Sexiest Man Alive issue twice.
The first hit stands in 1997, the year Clooney starred in "The Peacemaker" and "Batman & Robin" (which he recently apologized for).
The second was in 2006, when he was nominated for three Oscar s. (He won Best Supporting Actor for "Syriana".)
8. Matthew McConaughey (2005)
Maybe People Mag has precognitive abilities — their appointment of McConaughey as Sexiest Man Alive came nearly a decade before the "McConaissance" hit its stride and the actor was suddenly everywhere.
7. Richard Gere (1993, 1999)
Gere was the first — and apparently last — Sexiest Man to appear with a Sexiest Woman, to form the Sexiest Couple in '93.
The stunt has never been repeated, and when the actor was given the title again, it was the same year he and "Pretty Woman" co-star reunited for "Runaway Bride".
6. Denzel Washington (1996)
Washington holds the distinction of being the only African American Sexiest Man Alive .
He earned the honor after playing an army office in "Courage Under Fire" and the preacher in "The Preacher's Wife" in '96.
5. Brad Pitt (1995, 2000)
Though he only starred in two films in 1995, it was still a big year for Pitt, as those films were "Se7en" and "12 Monkeys".
Just a few years later, he starred in "Snatch" as an unintelligible Irish boxer, which launched his first foray into comedy.
4. Ryan Reynolds (2010)
The well-coifed and -eyebrowed Reynolds just had the one film come out in 2010 — a fairly small but well-received movie called "Buried".
His performance (as the only person seen in the film) earned him a number of awards nominations.
3. Johnny Depp (2003, 2009)
2003 marked the beginning of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, which is still going strong (for the most part).
Depp also starred in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" alongside Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayak that year, as an eventually eyeless crooked CIA agent.
2009, on the other hand, wasn't actually that big a year for Depp, apart from, you know, being the Sexiest Man Alive.
2. Ben Affleck (2002)
Affleck's Sexiest Man Alive issue hit stands just a few months before "Daredevil" was released, a turning point that almost ended up being the beginning of the end.
"Gigli" came out not long after, and overexposure in the tabloids rendered him generally unlikable to the public.
Things started looking up in 2006, after he starred in "Hollywoodland", and, while he's still suffering some fan backlash, a solid performance in the new "Batman vs Superman" movies should help shake it.
1. Sean Connery (1989)
Last but not least, Connery, who's currently pushing 85, graced People's cover a few years after the tradition began. Considering he was James Bond — and the accent — who can blame them?
